COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance is structured to provide students with comprehensive professional training in piano, combining rigorous applied study, ensemble participation, and academic coursework to prepare graduates for careers in performance, teaching, or advanced graduate study. The program requires 120 total credit hours, including 34 credits in General Education, which encompass foundational courses in mathematics, writing, speaking, natural and social sciences, and arts and humanities, with diversity and integrated learning components. Music Core courses (32 credits) cover music theory, musicianship, music history, keyboard skills, and music software, establishing a strong theoretical and historical foundation. Applied Music and Performance courses (41 credits) emphasize intensive private piano study across four levels, chamber music, keyboard ensembles, performance seminars, and a senior recital, allowing students to refine technical proficiency, interpretive skill, and stage experience. Additional required music courses (10–11 credits) include piano pedagogy, conducting, analytical techniques, and counterpoint, providing essential tools for both performance and teaching. Students also complete 3 credits of music electives to explore additional interests or specialize further. By integrating scholarly, technical, and performance training, the program ensures that graduates possess the artistic, pedagogical, and professional skills necessary to succeed as versatile pianists in solo, ensemble, and educational contexts, while fostering a deep understanding of musical repertoire and practice.
