COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music in Percussion Performance is a comprehensive program designed to prepare students for professional careers in performance, teaching, or advanced study. The degree requires completion of 120–121 credit hours, including 34 credits of general education, 32 credits of music core, 41 credits of applied music and performance courses, 12–13 credits of additional required music courses, and one credit of music electives. General education coursework emphasizes foundational skills in mathematics, writing, speaking, sciences, social sciences, and the arts, with recommended courses in music literature to complement major studies. The music core develops students’ musicianship through courses in theory, musicianship, music history, keyboard harmony, and music technology. Applied music and performance courses focus on intensive private study in percussion, ensemble participation in orchestras, bands, and chamber groups, and culminate in a full senior recital. Additional required music courses include conducting, analytical techniques, orchestration, counterpoint, and literature and teaching methods specific to percussion instruments. One credit of music electives allows students to explore additional areas of interest. Throughout the program, students engage in continuous performance practice, applied lessons, ensemble experiences, and music seminars, ensuring technical mastery, artistic development, and professional readiness. Graduates emerge as versatile percussionists equipped with the skills necessary for diverse musical careers, from solo and ensemble performance to teaching and advanced graduate study.
