COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance requires a total of 120–121 credit hours, combining a strong foundation in general education with comprehensive music coursework. Students complete 34 credits of General Education requirements, which include classes in writing, speaking, mathematics, arts, humanities, natural and social sciences, and diversity, with recommended courses such as Music Literature I and II to align with program goals. The 32-credit Music Core builds theoretical and practical knowledge through courses like Theory and Musicianship I–IV, Keyboard Harmony, Music History I–II, and Music Software Survey and Use. Applied Music and Performance Courses (41 credits) emphasize technical mastery and stage experience through eight semesters of Performance Seminar, Chamber Music Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, and private lessons in classical, jazz guitar, or jazz electric bass, culminating in a senior recital. Additional Required Music Courses (12–13 credits) expand students’ musical expertise through Fretboard Harmony, Conducting, Analytical Techniques, Guitar Pedagogy, Arranging, and Counterpoint or Electronic Music. A one-credit music elective allows further exploration. This rigorous, performance-focused program develops both technical excellence and creative artistry, preparing students for professional careers as guitar performers, educators, and composers or for graduate-level study in music.
