COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music in Brass Performance requires a total of 120–121 credit hours, integrating general education, music core studies, applied performance, and specialized coursework. Students complete 34 credits of General Education, including music literature courses that fulfill Arts and Humanities and Diversity requirements. The 32-credit Music Core builds foundational skills through studies in music theory, musicianship, keyboard harmony, and music history, complemented by introductory courses in music orientation and software applications. Applied Music and Performance courses, totaling 41 credits, emphasize individualized instruction on a primary brass instrument through eight semesters of applied lessons, participation in major ensembles such as orchestra, wind symphony, or concert band, and a required senior recital. Students also complete additional music courses (12–13 credits) in conducting, analytical and post-tonal techniques, brass teaching and literature, orchestration, and counterpoint or electronic music. One music elective credit allows further exploration of performance or theory. Throughout the program, students engage in both solo and ensemble performance experiences to refine technical mastery and artistic expression. Designed to prepare students for careers as professional performers, private instructors, or advanced study, this comprehensive curriculum balances rigorous academic study with extensive practical training in brass performance and musicianship.
