COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Studio Emphasis is a flexible, interdisciplinary program that allows students to design a personalized course of study within the Myers School of Art, blending liberal arts education with intensive studio practice. The degree requires a total of 120 credit hours, including 36 hours of General Education coursework covering academic foundations, breadth of knowledge, diversity, and integrated learning, alongside completion of recommended courses such as global art surveys and foundational writing, speaking, and mathematics skills. Students must also fulfill 14–18 hours of College of Arts & Sciences requirements, either through completion of a minor outside the art school or demonstrated proficiency in a second language, and take 9 hours of core Art History courses with an additional 3 hours of advanced Art History. The Studio Art Core, totaling 12 hours, includes foundational courses in drawing, two- and three-dimensional design, and lecture/studio combinations, while 33 credit hours of Studio Art electives are chosen from at least six different disciplines, including ceramics, graphic design, painting, photography, sculpture, and digital media, allowing for deep exploration of individual artistic interests. Students also complete 6 credit hours in internship and professional practices, combining practical experience, service learning, and preparation for professional work. A minimum 2.5 GPA in all ART courses is required for graduation, ensuring both artistic and academic rigor.
