COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work requires a total of 120 credit hours, including general education, social work core courses, electives, and additional credits for graduation. General education requirements comprise 36 hours, covering academic foundations such as mathematics, statistics, logic, writing, and speaking, along with a breadth of knowledge in arts, humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences. Diversity coursework and integrated and applied learning are also included to ensure a well-rounded education. The 40-hour Social Work Core prepares students for competent and effective generalist practice and includes courses such as Human Behavior and Social Environment I, a four-part Social Work Practice sequence, Practice Skills Lab, Professional Development, Social Work Ethics, Social Work Research, Social Policy Analysis, and Social Work in Mental Health. Field experience is emphasized through Field Experience Seminar I and II, and practical training at social agencies through Field Experience: Social Agency I and II. Students also complete nine hours of electives within social work to explore specialized interests or focus areas. The program equips students with the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundation necessary for entry-level positions in social service agencies, fostering the ability to work with diverse populations, advocate for social justice, and apply critical thinking and research-informed approaches in professional social work practice.
