COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Community and Workforce Education incorporates a well-rounded curriculum that combines general education, arts and sciences, education core, community and workforce specialization, and communication courses to prepare students for careers in non-licensure teaching, training, instructional design, and community and workforce program development. Students complete 36 credit hours of general education coursework, including mathematics, statistics, logic, writing, speaking, arts, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, diversity, and integrated learning experiences. The program also requires 14 credit hours of foreign language proficiency or the Survey of Deaf Culture in America for American Sign Language students. The education core, totaling 18 credit hours, focuses on mentoring, instructional design and assessment, educational psychology, introduction to education, and exceptionalities, providing foundational knowledge for effective teaching and program development. The community and workforce education specialization, also 18 credit hours, emphasizes adult learning, instructional design as a profession, talent development and training, eLearning design, and data collection for program planning and evaluation, equipping students with practical skills to develop and manage educational programs in corporate and non-profit settings. Additionally, 12 credit hours of communication courses, including interpersonal, intercultural, small group, and organizational communication, enhance students’ ability to collaborate, lead, and convey information effectively. This integrated curriculum ensures graduates are prepared for diverse roles in education, workforce training, and community program coordination.
