COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Child & Family Development is structured as a four-year program requiring a minimum of 120 credit hours, providing a comprehensive foundation in human development, family dynamics, health, nutrition, diversity, and practical applications in the field. In the first year, students complete English composition, public speaking, mathematics or statistics, social sciences, natural sciences with lab, and introductory human development and child development courses, totaling 31–33 credits across fall and spring semesters. The second year emphasizes arts, humanities, diversity studies, family resource and financial management, family dynamics, health and nutrition, and orientation to the major, totaling 30–34 credits. During the third year, coursework focuses on advanced family dynamics, diversity issues, applications in child and family development, and seminars, alongside electives or minor courses, totaling 34 credits. In the fourth year, students complete a six-credit internship in child and family development and additional applications courses, with electives, minor, or certificate coursework completing the remaining credits, totaling 25–28 hours. The curriculum integrates theory, practical skills, and experiential learning to prepare students for careers in early childhood programs, social services, family support, or further professional study. By sequencing foundational, intermediate, and advanced courses alongside applied experiences, the program ensures that graduates develop the knowledge, critical thinking, and professional skills needed to support children and families effectively.
