COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry requires a minimum of 120 credit hours for graduation, combining a strong foundation in chemistry with general education and College of Arts & Sciences requirements. Students complete 36 credit hours of recommended General Education coursework, including mathematics, statistics, and logic through courses such as Analytic Geometry and Calculus I and II, alongside speaking and writing requirements. Breadth of Knowledge courses encompass arts and humanities, natural sciences—including Principles of Chemistry I and II with laboratories, Principles of Biology I and II, and College or Elementary Classical Physics I and II—and social sciences, while also addressing domestic and global diversity. College of Arts & Sciences requirements include completion of a two-year foreign language or an American Sign Language alternative, along with at least 40 credits of upper-level coursework both within and outside the major. Core chemistry requirements total 31–33 credits, including foundational courses in organic, analytical, and physical chemistry, qualitative analysis, and advanced laboratory work, with students choosing between physical chemistry tracks. Physics and mathematics requirements provide additional analytical support through college-level physics and calculus. Finally, at least five credits of advanced chemistry electives, such as biochemistry, polymer chemistry, advanced inorganic and organic chemistry, internships, research projects, or honors projects, allow students to gain specialized knowledge and hands-on experience, preparing them for professional careers or further study in chemistry, biochemistry, medicine, or related scientific fields.
