COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering Technology requires a total of 63 credit hours, combining General Education, program-specific courses, mathematics and natural science, mechanical engineering technology courses, and discipline-specific engineering technology courses. Students complete 15 credit hours of General Education, including mathematics, statistics, and logic, speaking, writing, natural science, and social science, with an emphasis on courses aligned with the Ohio Transfer 36 for potential continuation to a bachelor’s degree. Program-specific General Education courses include Technical Algebra and Trigonometry 2 and College Physics I, satisfying mathematics and natural science requirements, with substitutions available for students placing higher in mathematics. Additional General Education beyond the AAS includes one course in arts or humanities, which may also satisfy diversity requirements for bachelor’s programs. Mathematics and natural science courses beyond the AAS include Technical Calculus I and College Physics II, preparing students for advanced study. Required Mechanical Engineering Technology courses cover fundamentals of mechanical design, tools for mechanical engineering technology, engineering drawing, material technology, kinematics, mechanical design II, applied thermal energy, fluid mechanics, and manufacturing processes, totaling 28 credits. Discipline-specific courses, including CNC and additive manufacturing, statics, and strength of materials, add nine credits, ensuring students acquire practical skills in design, analysis, and manufacturing applicable across industrial settings, positioning graduates for immediate employment or continuation to a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering technology.
