COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Applied Science in Land Surveying requires a total of 60–61 credit hours, combining general education, mathematics and natural science courses, geographic information systems, core surveying courses, and technical electives. General education accounts for 17–18 credit hours, including program-specific courses such as MATH 144 or MATH 143 for Technical Algebra and Trigonometry, GEOG 100 Introduction to Geography, GEOL 101 Introductory Physical Geology, a writing course, and a speaking course, providing foundational skills in communication, mathematics, and the natural sciences. Beyond general education, students complete an additional 9 credit hours in mathematics and natural science, including MATH 154 Technical Algebra and Trigonometry II, MATH 260 Mathematics for Surveyors, and PHYS 261 College Physics I, with acceptable substitutes available to meet program and BS degree requirements. The curriculum includes a 3-credit Introduction to Geographic and Land Information Systems course to develop skills in spatial data management. The 29-credit surveying core covers all essential surveying principles and practices through courses such as Introduction to Geomatics, Basic and Advanced Surveying, Topographic and Construction Surveying, Surveying Drafting, Mapping with Drones, Boundary Surveying, and Safety, as well as a CST Seminar. Finally, students select 2 credits of technical electives, including topics in GIS, professional practice, independent study, or workshops, providing flexibility for specialized interests and professional development in the field of surveying.
