COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Applied Business (AAB) in Computer Information Systems (CIS) – Software Development Option combines foundational general education with program-specific and technical coursework to prepare students for careers in software application development, client/server programming, and database management. Students complete 15 credit hours of general education, including academic foundations in mathematics, statistics, logic, writing, and speaking, as well as breadth of knowledge courses in natural and social sciences. Program-specific general education courses, such as Principles of Microeconomics and Technical Algebra and Trigonometry, satisfy both degree and general education requirements, ensuring a well-rounded academic foundation. The business core provides essential knowledge in accounting, management, and marketing, while the CIS software development core introduces students to programming logic, cybersecurity fundamentals, web development, Unix/Linux, Java and Visual BASIC programming, database management, systems analysis and design, and computer science principles, totaling 28 credit hours of hands-on, technical training. Students gain practical experience through part-time internships or full-time cooperative education work periods, enhancing workforce readiness. All CIS core courses require a minimum GPA of 2.0 for graduation. Elective courses allow students to reach the program’s 60-credit minimum while exploring additional general education or technical subjects. This combination of academic, technical, and experiential learning equips graduates with the knowledge and applied skills necessary to succeed in the dynamic field of software development and information systems.
