COURSE CURRICULUM

The Associate of Applied Business (AAB) in Computer Information Systems (CIS) – Networking Option combines general education, program-specific coursework, and hands-on technical training to prepare students for careers in network management, including building, securing, and administering LAN and WAN networks. Students complete 15 credit hours of general education requirements, covering academic foundations such as mathematics, statistics, logic, speaking, and writing, as well as breadth of knowledge courses in natural and social sciences. Program-specific general education courses, including Technical Algebra and Trigonometry, ensure that students meet both foundational and applied academic competencies. The CIS – Networking AAB core curriculum, totaling 27 credit hours, provides in-depth instruction in logic and programming, cybersecurity fundamentals, Unix/Linux systems, database management, networking basics, router and routing configuration, enterprise networking, hardware support, and Microsoft networking, combining theory with practical, lab-based learning. Additional required courses in accounting, programming for data science, digital circuits, and discrete mathematics further develop analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in core networking courses to qualify for graduation, ensuring proficiency in critical skills. To gain real-world experience, students participate in a part-time internship or a full-time cooperative education work term, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge to professional network management environments and enhance workplace readiness.
