COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biology program at Catholic University follows a structured course sequence designed to build a strong foundation in the life sciences while gradually advancing students toward specialized knowledge and research experience. In the freshman year, students begin with introductory courses in biology and chemistry, including BIOL 105/115 and 106/116, along with CHEM 103/113 and 104/114, which establish fundamental concepts in biology and general chemistry. During the sophomore year, students continue with more advanced biology courses such as BIOL 217 and 317, alongside organic chemistry (CHEM 203/213 and 204/214) and mathematics courses MATH 111 and 112, strengthening their analytical and scientific skills.In the junior year, the curriculum progresses to higher-level biology courses like BIOL 307 and 454, as well as physics sequences PHYS 205-225 and 206-226, complemented by biology electives that allow students to explore specific areas of interest. The senior year focuses on advanced topics, including BIOL 449 and 452, along with additional biology electives, enabling students to deepen their expertise and prepare for professional or academic careers.Students also have the option to enroll in a B.S./M.S. dual degree program by the start of their junior year, allowing them to earn both a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology in just five years instead of six. This program includes 30 additional credits, with graduate-level biology courses counting toward both degrees, specialized biotechnology courses, a summer internship for practical experience, and a graduate research seminar.Overall, this structured and flexible curriculum provides students with strong scientific training, hands-on experience, and accelerated opportunities, preparing them for careers in biotechnology, research, healthcare, and advanced studies.
