The Department of Accounting at McCoy College of Business within Texas State University is committed to preparing a diverse student population to succeed professionally and contribute positively to society in an increasingly data-driven and rapidly evolving business environment. The Master of Accountancy (M.Acy.) program is designed to expand the educational experience of individuals aiming for careers in public accounting by emphasizing not only technical knowledge but also the broader social, ethical, and environmental implications of accounting information used in decision-making. This program provides a pathway to meet the 150-hour educational requirement necessary for obtaining the CPA license in Texas, and importantly, it does not require students to have an undergraduate degree in accounting, making it accessible to students from diverse academic backgrounds. Alongside this, the Master of Science in Accounting and Information Technology (MSAIT) program prepares students for careers that blend accounting expertise with information technology skills, focusing on the growing need for professionals who can manage and analyze accounting information systems in modern organizations. The MSAIT program equips students with competencies in both accounting and IT, enabling them to respond effectively to technological advancements and organizational demands in areas such as data management, cybersecurity, and information systems auditing. Like the M.Acy., the MSAIT degree can also be used to fulfill the 150-hour education requirement for CPA licensure in Texas, offering flexibility and professional advancement opportunities.
