COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Music Education program requires a total of 36 credit hours and is designed to build advanced knowledge in teaching, research, and musical practice. The required core courses include Research in Music Education, Foundations of Music Education, Psychology of Music, Inclusive Excellence in the Music Classroom, a course on 21st century music education, and a capstone experience. These courses develop essential skills in pedagogy, research methods, and understanding diverse learning environments, preparing students to become effective and inclusive music educators.In addition to the core, students must complete 21 credit hours of prescribed electives, allowing them to customize their studies across a wide range of areas. These include music education methods, music theory, musicology, jazz studies, Latin music, conducting, ensembles, composition, and applied instrumental or vocal training. Students can also gain hands-on experience through ensemble participation, conducting practice, and applied performance courses. The flexibility of electives enables students to specialize in their area of interest while developing both teaching and performance skills. Overall, the program combines academic study, practical training, and creative development to prepare graduates for careers in music education, performance, and related fields.
