COURSE CURRICULUM

Texas State University offers a range of graduate degrees in Elementary Education designed to prepare educators for diverse instructional settings, leadership roles, and specialized teaching needs. These programs include both Master of Arts (M.A.) and Master of Education (M.Ed.) options, allowing students to choose between more research-oriented or practice-focused pathways depending on their professional goals. Across all programs, the central emphasis is on developing highly effective teachers who can meet the needs of learners in early childhood and elementary grade levels while also addressing the linguistic, cultural, and academic diversity found in today’s classrooms.Available degrees include Elementary Education with 4–8 certification at the M.Ed. level, as well as an M.A. in Elementary Education with a focus on Creativity, Talent, and Transformation. Students may also pursue combined M.A./M.Ed. pathways in Early Childhood Education or General Elementary Education, offering flexibility in academic and professional preparation. Specialized certification and concentration options are available as well, such as the M.Ed. in EC–6 Generalist Bilingual education and the M.Ed. in Early Childhood through Grade Six ESL certification, which prepare teachers to support multilingual learners in inclusive classroom environments. Additional options include the Teacher Fellows M.Ed. program, designed for intensive professional development and classroom readiness, and the M.Ed. in Teaching and Transforming Advanced and Gifted Education, which focuses on meeting the needs of high-ability learners.
