COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs at Texas State University offer a broad range of specialized pathways designed to prepare educators for advanced teaching roles, certification, and leadership positions across diverse educational settings. These degree options include a major in Educational Technology as well as multiple concentrations in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Reading Education, and Special Education. Within Elementary Education, students can pursue focused tracks such as Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood through Grade Six Generalist Bilingual Certification, Early Childhood through Grade Six Generalist ESL Certification, and Teaching and Transforming Advanced and Gifted Education (offered in an accelerated online format). Additional certification options prepare teachers for specific grade levels and subject areas, including Core Subjects for Grades Four through Eight, English Language Arts and Reading, English Language Arts/Reading/Social Studies, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies, as well as Early Childhood through Grade Six ESL certification. Other pathways include Teacher Fellows and a Bilingual/Bicultural program, both designed to strengthen instructional practice in diverse classrooms. The Reading Education major includes a Reading Specialist concentration leading to professional certification for Early Childhood through Grade Twelve. Secondary Education options include concentrations in Educational Technology, Creativity, Talent, and Transformation (offered via distance education), Teacher Recruitment, Teaching Advanced Academics, and CMED certification (also via distance education), all of which prepare educators for leadership roles in middle and high school education. The Special Education program offers concentrations in Autism/Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavioral Disorders/Positive Behavior Supports, Learning Disabilities/Inclusion, Learning and Behavioral Disabilities (Accelerated Online Program), and CASE certification, focusing on inclusive education and specialized instructional support. Across all programs, the M.Ed. emphasizes applied learning, instructional excellence, and equity-focused teaching practices, preparing graduates to improve student outcomes and advance in educational careers.
