COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) programs at Texas State University offer a wide range of specialized pathways designed to prepare educators for leadership, certification, and advanced instructional practice across diverse educational settings. These programs include majors in Educational Technology, Elementary Education, Reading Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education, each tailored to meet the evolving needs of today’s classrooms and learning environments. The Elementary Education pathways provide multiple certification options, including Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood through Grade Six Generalist certifications in both Bilingual and ESL formats, Core Subjects for Grades Four through Eight, and subject-specific certifications in English Language Arts and Reading, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. Additional specialized tracks include Teacher Fellows, Bilingual/Bicultural Education, and Teaching and Transforming Advanced and Gifted Education, which is also offered in an accelerated online format. These programs emphasize instructional effectiveness, culturally responsive teaching, and subject-specific mastery to support diverse learners in K–12 education. The Secondary Education major includes options in Educational Technology, Creativity, Talent, and Transformation (offered via distance education), Teaching Advanced Academics, Teacher Recruitment, and certification-focused pathways such as CMED, all designed to prepare educators for leadership and innovation in middle and high school settings. The Special Education programs offer concentrations in Autism/Applied Behavior Analysis, Behavioral Disorders/Positive Behavior Supports, Learning Disabilities/Inclusion, Learning and Behavioral Disabilities (Accelerated Online), and CASE certification, focusing on inclusive education and support for students with diverse learning needs. The Reading Education program includes a Reading Specialist concentration leading to professional certification for Early Childhood through Grade Twelve.
