COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts (M.A.) program in English offers three main areas of study: Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, and Technical Communication. Each major is designed to strengthen advanced skills in reading, writing, analysis, and communication, while allowing students to choose a pathway that fits their academic and career goals. All three areas offer flexible options, including thesis and non-thesis tracks, with Technical Communication also offering internship-based options for applied professional experience.The Literature major focuses on the study of texts across historical periods and genres, preparing students for careers in education, writing, publishing, and further academic study. The Rhetoric and Composition major emphasizes writing theory, pedagogy, and critical communication skills, supporting careers in teaching, writing centers, digital media, and related fields. The Technical Communication major focuses on professional and workplace communication, with internship options that provide real-world experience in industries such as business, technology, and media.Across all majors, the thesis option involves conducting original research, while non-thesis and internship options emphasize coursework and applied learning. Some tracks also allow a minor component to broaden academic specialization.
