COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master’s degree programs in counseling provide advanced professional training in mental health and family therapy, with options tailored to different career goals. Students can choose between Clinical Mental Health Counseling or Marriage and Family Counseling as their area of concentration. Each specialization is available in both thesis and non-thesis formats, allowing students to decide whether they want to focus more on research or clinical practice. The programs are offered at both the San Marcos and Round Rock locations, providing flexibility and accessibility for students.The Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage & Family Counseling programs require either 60 credit hours for the non-thesis option or 66 credit hours for the thesis option. The non-thesis track focuses primarily on applied clinical training, preparing students for direct counseling practice in mental health or family settings. The thesis track includes additional research components and is suited for students interested in academic study or advanced research in counseling. Both pathways include extensive supervised clinical experience, ensuring students develop strong practical skills. Overall, these programs prepare graduates for professional licensure and careers in counseling, therapy, and mental health services.
