COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice program is structured over 120 credit hours and combines general education, foundational social science knowledge, and specialized criminal justice coursework to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, corrections, legal systems, and public safety. In the freshman year, students begin with introductory courses such as Criminal Justice (CJ 1310), Sociology, Psychology, government, communication, and mathematics, along with the US 1100 requirement for some students. These courses establish a strong academic foundation in communication skills, social behavior, and civic understanding. In the sophomore year, students move into core criminal justice subjects including CJ 2310, CJ 2350, CJ 2360, and CJ 2355, while also completing supporting coursework in life and physical sciences, humanities, creative arts, and social sciences, helping them understand crime, society, and human behavior from multiple perspectives.During the junior year, students take more advanced criminal justice courses such as CJ 3346 along with CJ advanced electives that allow specialization in areas like policing, corrections, criminology, or legal studies. This year also includes additional electives and general education requirements to broaden academic development. In the senior year, students complete upper-level courses such as CJ 4340 and CJ 4310, along with additional CJ electives and open electives that provide flexibility to tailor the degree toward specific career goals or graduate study preparation.Throughout the program, students are encouraged to build analytical thinking, research ability, and a strong understanding of the criminal justice system. The degree integrates theory with practical application, preparing graduates for careers in law enforcement agencies, courts, correctional institutions, homeland security, and related public service fields. It also provides a strong foundation for students who wish to pursue advanced study in criminal justice, criminology, or law.
