COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science degree is a structured 120-credit-hour program designed to build strong foundations in programming, mathematics, systems, and problem-solving while also ensuring a broad general education background. In the first year, students begin with core computing and mathematics courses such as Foundations of Computer Science (CS 1428), Computer Science II (CS 2308), Calculus I (MATH 2471), and Calculus II (MATH 2472), along with general education requirements in communication, government, philosophy, and writing. These early courses establish essential skills in logic, coding, and mathematical reasoning. In the sophomore year, students progress into more advanced computer science topics such as assembly language (CS 2318), data structures, and systems-based courses like CS 2315, while continuing higher-level mathematics (MATH 3398) and completing life and physical science requirements. The curriculum also includes social sciences and electives to maintain a balanced academic structure. During the junior year, students take upper-level CS courses like CS 3339, CS 3360, and CS 3398, along with additional advanced electives that allow specialization in areas such as algorithms, software development, and computing systems. Supporting coursework in mathematics, writing-intensive English (ENG 3303 or equivalent), and history further broadens their academic development. In the senior year, students complete advanced CS electives, a required capstone project course (such as Software Engineering Project CS 4398 or similar), and coursework in a chosen math or applied math minor. Electives and remaining general education requirements complete the degree. Students must also maintain a grade of C or higher in all computer science and mathematics courses used toward the major and complete at least 36 advanced (3000- or 4000-level) credit hours. The program ensures students graduate with strong technical expertise, analytical thinking skills, and practical experience for careers in software engineering, data science, cybersecurity, and related technology fields.
