COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Computer Science with a Computer Engineering concentration is a 120-credit-hour program designed to combine core computer science principles with engineering-focused computing applications. The curriculum begins in the freshman year with foundational coursework in programming (CS 1428), data structures and computer science fundamentals (CS 2308), calculus (MATH 2471 and MATH 2472), communication, philosophy, government, and general education requirements. These early courses build essential skills in mathematical reasoning, programming logic, and academic communication. In the sophomore year, students advance into intermediate computer science courses such as CS 2318 and CS 2315 while also taking engineering-related coursework like EE 2320 and EE 2120. At the same time, students continue strengthening their mathematical background through courses such as MATH 3398 and complete required life and physical sciences coursework along with social and political science components.In the junior year, students move into higher-level computer science and engineering integration courses including CS 3339, CS 3360, and CS 3398, along with EE 2300 and EE 2100. This stage also includes communication-intensive coursework such as ENG 3303 and continued general education requirements in history and science. Students begin selecting concentration electives in computer engineering, which allow specialization in areas such as systems, machine learning, networks, and computational engineering applications.In the senior year, students complete advanced computer science and engineering coursework, including CS 4371 and additional concentration electives. They also choose from advanced topics such as computer networks, operating systems, machine learning, parallel programming, and computer graphics, along with engineering-focused electives in areas like circuits, scientific computing, and simulation. A required minor in math or applied math further strengthens analytical and quantitative skills. Students also complete remaining general education requirements and electives to reach graduation requirements.Overall, the program emphasizes a strong blend of computing theory, engineering applications, and mathematical foundations. Graduates are prepared for careers in software engineering, embedded systems, artificial intelligence, data science, and other interdisciplinary technology fields that require both computer science and engineering expertise.
