COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies (STEM-focused track) is a structured 120–123 credit degree designed to combine core communication theory with applied, career-oriented skills in management, research, and professional development. In the freshman year, students complete foundational coursework in English composition, government and political science, mathematics, social sciences, and introductory communication courses such as COMM 1310, COMM 2315, and COMM 2338. These courses build essential skills in writing, speaking, and understanding human interaction, while general education requirements broaden academic exposure. The sophomore year expands into more diverse academic areas, including life and physical sciences, humanities, history, philosophy, and communication studies such as COMM 2330 and COMM 3321. Students also begin taking specialized support courses designed for STEM-related communication skills, alongside continued academic development in critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning. In the junior year, the focus shifts more directly toward the major, with advanced core courses COMM 3301 and COMM 3302, along with communication electives that allow deeper specialization. Students also complete courses in professional skills for STEM careers, research methods, and a selected course in computer science, mathematics, or science, which strengthens analytical and technical competencies. A minor is also required to broaden academic and career flexibility. In the senior year, students complete advanced communication electives along with additional minor coursework and open electives to meet graduation requirements. The program also includes specialized elective categories such as humanities for STEM careers, professional skills courses in leadership, management, ethics, and workplace development, and research methods options including statistics, data analytics, and qualitative research. Overall, this degree integrates communication expertise with STEM-related professional skills, preparing graduates for careers in healthcare communication, corporate environments, public relations, management, research, and other fields that require strong communication and analytical abilities.
