COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Music Performance degree plan is structured as a four-year progressive curriculum combining general education, music theory, performance training, and ensemble participation, leading to a total of 120 credit hours. In the freshman year, students begin foundational coursework in music theory, aural skills, applied instruction, and major ensemble participation, alongside general education requirements such as English composition, mathematics, government, and introductory university studies. Applied music study and ensemble involvement are emphasized early, ensuring consistent performance development. The sophomore year builds on this foundation with continued advancement in theory and aural skills, more ensemble work, and progression in applied study. Students also complete additional general education requirements in communication, literature, history, and natural sciences while beginning upper-level music courses.In the junior year, the program shifts toward more advanced music theory, literature, and performance-based courses. Students engage in higher-level ensembles and applied study while also completing music electives and specialized courses that deepen their understanding of performance practice and musicianship. General education requirements continue to be fulfilled through courses in creative arts, sciences, and other core areas. The senior year focuses on refinement and specialization, with advanced performance courses, continued ensemble participation, and completion of upper-level applied music requirements. Students also take courses in culture, philosophy, and social sciences as part of remaining general education obligations.Across all four years, consistent participation in ensembles and applied lessons is required each semester, reinforcing performance skills and collaborative musicianship. Music theory and aural training progress sequentially from introductory to advanced levels, ensuring strong technical and analytical ability. The curriculum integrates academic study with intensive practical training, preparing students for professional performance careers or further graduate study. By the end of the program, students complete 120 total credit hours, including general education, advanced music coursework, applied instruction, and performance requirements, resulting in a comprehensive education in both the artistic and academic dimensions of music performance.
