COURSE CURRICULUM

The BFA in Performance & Production at Texas State University is a 120-credit-hour program structured over four years to develop versatile and collaborative theatre artists through a balance of performance, production, and academic study. In the freshman year, students build a strong foundation with courses in acting, design, film production, communication, and government, along with participation in theatre activities and a university seminar. The sophomore year expands into more specialized learning, including theatre electives, history, mathematics, and creative arts, while allowing students to begin exploring different areas of interest within performance and production. In the junior year, the focus shifts toward advanced coursework and deeper specialization, with a large number of performance and production electives, along with science, philosophy, and social science requirements, helping students refine both technical and analytical skills. By the senior year, students complete advanced theatre courses, additional electives, and interdisciplinary studies, preparing for professional careers. A key feature of the program is its wide range of elective categories, including performance, dramatic writing, directing, and playmaking, enabling students to tailor their education according to their interests.
