COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Economics at Texas State University’s McCoy College of Business is a 120-semester-credit-hour degree designed to combine strong economic theory with practical business education and professional development. Admission to the program is competitive, and students must be formally admitted to McCoy College to pursue the degree. Admission is based on academic performance and program entry requirements, with assured admission available to qualifying freshmen and automatic consideration for eligible transfer students who select a business major as their first-choice program. Students not admitted directly may enter as Pre-Business majors and apply internally once requirements are met. Maintaining good academic standing is essential, as students whose Texas State GPA falls below 2.0 are placed on restricted status and must improve performance to remain in the college.The curriculum includes a common business core designed to provide a broad foundation in all key areas of business. Required courses include Introduction to Business, Microcomputer Applications in Business, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Business Statistics, Financial and Managerial Accounting, Business Finance, Legal Environment of Business, Management, Marketing, Business Communication, Enterprise Information Technology, and Strategic Management. These courses ensure students develop a comprehensive understanding of how businesses operate in real-world environments. In addition to the core, students complete economics major coursework along with advanced electives to deepen specialization in economic analysis and related fields.The program also includes general education requirements in communication, mathematics, science, humanities, and social sciences, along with free electives to reach the 120-credit-hour graduation minimum. Students must complete nine hours of writing-intensive coursework and meet GPA requirements in the university, business core, and minor (if applicable). Overall, the B.B.A. in Economics prepares students for careers in business, finance, government, consulting, and analytics, while also providing a strong foundation for graduate study.
