COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science is a structured 120–121 credit degree that combines rigorous technical training in computing with a strong foundation in mathematics, science, and liberal arts. The curriculum begins with core computer science courses such as CS 1428 and CS 2308, which introduce programming fundamentals, problem-solving, and data structures, followed by CS 2318 in assembly language for understanding low-level computing systems. Students also complete a strong mathematics sequence including Calculus I and II, along with required coursework in physics covering mechanics and electricity/magnetism, ensuring a solid scientific and analytical foundation.Alongside technical coursework, students complete general education requirements in communication, government, social sciences, humanities, and creative arts, as well as modern language study through 1410, 1420, and 2320 levels. A key requirement of the degree is an English literature course chosen from a list of options, reinforcing reading, writing, and critical analysis skills. Students are also required to complete a minor, allowing them to gain interdisciplinary knowledge in another academic field.As students progress into the junior and senior years, the program emphasizes advanced computer science courses such as CS 3339 and CS 3398, along with additional CS electives at the 3000–4000 level. A required computer science project course (such as software engineering, cybersecurity, or parallel programming) provides hands-on, real-world experience in designing and implementing complex systems.
