COURSE CURRICULUM

The cybersecurity program requires students to complete a total of 30 credit hours, structured to provide both a strong technical foundation and interdisciplinary knowledge. The curriculum includes 12 credits of core courses that establish essential concepts and principles in cybersecurity, ensuring that students develop a solid understanding of system security, threat analysis, and risk management. In addition, students must complete 9 credits of technical cybersecurity electives, allowing them to specialize in areas such as network security, cryptography, or cyber defense, depending on their interests and career goals. A further requirement includes 6 credits of advanced coursework in CIS or CSE at the 600 level or higher, ensuring that students engage with rigorous, graduate-level material and develop deeper technical expertise.Beyond technical training, the program also incorporates nontechnical cybersecurity electives, which are drawn from a variety of academic units across Syracuse University, including the College of Law, the iSchool, and the Maxwell School. These courses provide valuable perspectives on the legal, policy, and social dimensions of cybersecurity, helping students understand the broader context in which security challenges exist.
