COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Civil Engineering program requires applicants to hold a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or a closely related field, although students without an engineering background or with insufficient preparation may be required to complete additional coursework to meet foundational requirements. The program offers two flexible degree options, allowing students to choose between a research-oriented thesis track or a coursework-focused non-thesis track, both requiring a total of 30 credit hours. In the thesis option, students complete core courses within their chosen specialization along with approved elective coursework and participate in faculty and student seminar series to enhance academic engagement and professional development. This option also includes 6 credits dedicated to a master’s thesis, where students conduct independent research under faculty supervision and culminate their work with a formal thesis defense, making it ideal for those interested in research or pursuing a doctoral degree. The non-thesis option also requires 30 credit hours, including core and elective coursework as well as participation in seminar series, but instead of a thesis, students complete a zero-credit Master’s Exit Paper course, which allows them to demonstrate their knowledge and analytical abilities through a comprehensive written project. Both options emphasize advanced technical knowledge, critical thinking, and practical application within the student’s chosen area of specialization, such as geotechnical, structural, or construction engineering and management. Through a combination of structured coursework, research or project-based learning, and academic engagement, the program ensures that graduates are well-prepared for professional careers in civil engineering, consulting, construction, and infrastructure development, as well as for further academic study.
