COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering is a flexible graduate program designed to meet diverse academic and career goals, offering students three distinct pathways that can be completed in approximately two years. The program can serve either as a terminal degree for immediate entry into the workforce or as a strong foundation for those planning to pursue a Ph.D. Plan 1 is a research-oriented option that requires a minimum of 30 credit hours, including 24 credits of coursework and 6 credits of thesis work, culminating in a formal oral defense of the master’s thesis, making it ideal for students interested in research-intensive careers or doctoral studies. Plan 2 also requires at least 30 credits but focuses more on applied learning, with 27 credits of coursework and 3 credits dedicated to a master’s project, allowing students to demonstrate their ability to solve practical biomedical engineering problems without completing a full thesis. Plan 3 provides the greatest flexibility and interdisciplinary scope, requiring a total of 36 credits, including 24 credits of technical coursework, 3 credits of a master’s project, and an additional 12 credits in tailored non-technical concentrations such as business, policy, or management, enabling students to broaden their expertise beyond engineering. Across all three plans, the program emphasizes a balance of technical knowledge, practical application, and professional development, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for careers in biomedical engineering, healthcare technology, and related industries, while also offering a solid pathway for those interested in continuing their education at the doctoral level.
