COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences at Saint Louis University follows a structured two-year plan of study totaling 58 credit hours, designed to blend academic coursework with clinical practicum experiences. In the first summer semester, students begin with foundational courses including Foundations of Contemporary Clinical Practice, Clinical Laboratory, and Fluency Disorders, totaling 5 credits. The fall semester expands into 12 credits with continued foundational training and practicum, as well as courses in Research for the Clinician, Speech Sound Disorders in Children, Early Childhood Language Disorders, and Professional Issues in Speech-Language Pathology. In the spring, students take another 13 credits including continued practicum and coursework in Dysphagia, School-Age Language Disorders, Neurogenic Communication Disorders in Adults, and Multilingual Communication Disorders. The second summer includes 4 credits with continued practicum and a course in Augmentative and Alternative Communication. The second fall semester includes 12 credits with offsite clinical practicum and courses in Voice Disorders, Motor Speech Disorders, and Cognitive Communication Disorders. The final spring semester consists of 12 credits, including a 6-credit Clinical Externship and 6 elective credits, allowing students to explore specialized areas of interest. Each term incorporates clinical practicum components to ensure that students are applying their academic knowledge in real-world settings throughout the program. This comprehensive curriculum is designed to develop highly competent clinicians who are prepared to work with culturally and linguistically diverse populations across the lifespan.
