COURSE CURRICULUM

Saint Louis University’s Master of Occupational Therapy (M.O.T.) program is a comprehensive, two-year graduate curriculum that prepares students for advanced practice through a combination of academic coursework, clinical application, and research opportunities. The program consists of 60 to 70 credit hours and begins in the summer of the first year. During this initial term, students complete foundational courses in Functional Anatomy and Kinesiology (6 credits). The fall semester is academically intensive, with 17 to 18 credits covering Neuroscience, Health Conditions, Foundations and Theoretical Perspectives of Occupational Therapy, Lifespan Assessments, Quantitative Research Methods, and an optional graduate research project. In the spring, students take another 17 to 18 credits, which include courses in the application of OT practice, administration and leadership, mental health, adult and pediatric practice, and qualitative research, along with the second optional research project.In the second year, the fall semester includes 11 to 18 credits based on selected electives and participation in research. Students explore advanced applications in OT practice, adult and pediatric interventions, community-based practice, specialty practice, and emerging practice areas. The final spring semester focuses on clinical fieldwork, requiring 6 credits for Advanced Fieldwork I and 3 credits for Advanced Fieldwork II, along with an optional final research project, for a total of 9 to 10 credits.Throughout the program, students can engage in a four-part optional graduate research project, which allows for scholarly development alongside clinical training. With its rigorous curriculum and emphasis on hands-on experience, SLU’s M.O.T. program equips students with the knowledge and skills necessary to excel in various occupational therapy settings. The program is ideal for individuals seeking a well-rounded, clinically grounded, and research-informed pathway to becoming licensed occupational therapists.
