COURSE CURRICULUM

Saint Louis University’s Master of Science in Cybersecurity is a comprehensive 33-credit program designed to develop expertise in cybersecurity principles, technologies, and management through a carefully structured two-year curriculum. In the first year, the fall semester begins with CYBR 5000 Cybersecurity Principles (3 credits) during Fall 1, laying the foundation for understanding core security concepts. In Fall 2, students take CYBR 5020 Data Administration and CYBR 5210 Digital Investigations (3 credits each), where they gain hands-on knowledge in managing data systems and conducting digital forensic investigations. The fall semester totals 9 credits. During the spring semester, students deepen their technical skills in Spring 1 with CYBR 5010 Networking Concepts and CYBR 5030 Cyber Threats and Defense (3 credits each), learning about network architecture and cyberattack prevention. Spring 2 includes CYBR 5230 Intrusion Detection and Analysis and ORLD 5050 Ethical, Evidence-Based Decision Making (3 credits each), focusing on identifying cyber intrusions and exploring the ethical, legal, and policy considerations of cybersecurity, which brings the spring semester to 12 credits. In the second year, Fall 1 courses include AA 5221 Applied Analytics & Methods I and CYBR 5220 Incident Response and Mitigation (3 credits each), emphasizing analytic methods and practical skills in responding to security incidents. Fall 2 consists of CYBR 5240 Cloud Security and CYBR 5960 Master’s Research Project (3 credits each). The Cloud Security course prepares students to secure modern cloud infrastructures, while the research project allows them to apply knowledge gained throughout the program to real-world cybersecurity challenges, culminating in a capstone experience. The program combines technical, ethical, and managerial aspects of cybersecurity, preparing graduates to lead cyber teams and programs across various sectors. With a blend of foundational courses, technical specialization, ethical considerations, and applied research, SLU’s cybersecurity curriculum equips students with the skills needed to excel in this rapidly evolving and critical field.
