COURSE CURRICULUM

Saint Louis University’s post-baccalaureate Master of Athletic Training (M.A.T.) program is a comprehensive two-year curriculum totaling 67 credit hours, designed to prepare students for certification and professional practice as athletic trainers. The program begins in the summer of Year One with foundational coursework in Human Gross Anatomy and Principles of Athletic Training, totaling 7 credits. In the fall, students progress to more advanced topics, including Clinical Biomechanics, Therapeutic Modalities, Nutrition, Musculoskeletal Assessment and Management I, and their first Clinical Practicum, accumulating 15 credits. The spring semester intensifies with 17 credits covering Musculoskeletal Assessment and Management II, Rehabilitation I, Medical Conditions and Physical Activity, Clinical Practicum II, and Clinical Research and Design.In Year Two, students complete a 2-credit Athletic Training Field Experience during the summer before entering their final academic year. The fall semester includes Rehabilitation II, Athletic Training Administration, Contemporary Clinical Practice, Clinical Practicum III, and Enhancing Human Performance, totaling 15 credits. The final spring semester rounds out the program with Clinical Practicum IV, a Seminar in Athletic Training, a Capstone Project, and coursework in Sports Psychology, totaling 11 credits. This carefully sequenced and integrated curriculum emphasizes both academic rigor and practical clinical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam and competent to practice as Certified Athletic Trainers (ATCs). The program balances hands-on clinical training with theoretical learning, positioning students for success in a range of healthcare, sports, and performance settings.
