COURSE CURRICULUM

Saint Louis University’s Master of Science in Applied Financial Economics (M.S.-AFE) offers both a one-year and a two-year roadmap, each totaling 30 credit hours, to accommodate different student needs and schedules. The one-year full-time plan is structured for accelerated completion. In the fall semester, students take Microeconomic Theory, Econometrics I, Finance Theory and Application, and Fixed Income Securities and Markets (12 credits). The spring semester includes Econometrics II, Forecasting Macroeconomic and Financial Variables, Investment Theory and Practice, and Derivative Securities and Markets (12 credits). The program concludes in the summer with the Applied Financial Economics Capstone and Applied Optimization Methods for Financial Economics (6 credits).The two-year part-time roadmap is ideal for working professionals seeking flexibility. In the first fall, students take Microeconomic Theory and Econometrics I (6 credits), followed by Econometrics II and Forecasting in the spring (6 credits). The first summer includes Applied Business Analytics (3 credits). The second year begins in the fall with Finance Theory and Application and Fixed Income Securities and Markets (6 credits), followed by Derivative Securities and Markets and Investment Theory and Practice in the spring (6 credits). The program ends with the Capstone course in the second summer (3 credits). Both paths provide rigorous, practical training in financial economics while accommodating students’ professional and academic goals.
