COURSE CURRICULUM

SLU's Bachelor of Science in Flight Science program, approved by the FAA under Part 141, prepares students to earn multiple FAA certificates and ratings, including a private pilot certificate, instrument rating, commercial pilot certificate with single and multi-engine ratings, and certified flight instructor. Students can choose from two concentrations: flight science and aviation management. The flight science concentration encourages students to diversify their education and explore areas beyond their major, while the aviation management concentration prepares students to manage aviation operations and become socially responsible leaders, with a strong focus on business, safety, and technical skills. The aviation management concentration is available both on-campus and online for working professionals. SLU’s aviation program offers a unique advantage through the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) Rule—graduates can receive a transcript endorsement for a restricted ATP certificate with reduced flight hours (1,000 or 1,250 hours, depending on credits) and can qualify for ATP certification at age 21 instead of 23. Additionally, SLU students are eligible for a reduction of 250 or 500 flight hours toward the ATP Certificate based on completing 30 or 60 credits of approved coursework. SLU also participates in regional airline agreements, offering opportunities for students to join pipeline programs with airlines such as Envoy Air, Inc., Republic Airways, and Mesa Airlines.
