COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at Brooklyn is a comprehensive four-year undergraduate program designed to prepare students for professional nursing practice and leadership in healthcare. The curriculum combines foundational sciences, liberal arts, and specialized nursing courses to develop critical thinking, clinical skills, and professional competencies. In the first year, students complete core courses in anatomy and physiology, psychology, sociology, communication, writing, and personal health, alongside a freshman seminar to develop academic skills and an understanding of healthcare contexts. In the second year, students expand their scientific knowledge with courses in biochemistry, microbiology, human inheritance, nutrition, and statistics, while engaging with ethics, world religions, and global perspectives. This combination ensures a strong foundation for understanding human health, development, and behavior. Beginning in the third year, students focus on nursing-specific courses, including professional nursing practice, health assessment, pathophysiology, pharmacology, psychiatric mental health nursing, pediatric care, and adult and older adult care. Evidence-based practice, nursing research, and care of childbearing families are also emphasized, integrating clinical knowledge with patient-centered care. In the final year, students advance to leadership, management, population-focused care, nursing informatics, and the transition to professional nursing practice. The program culminates in a senior clinical practicum and NCLEX review, providing intensive hands-on experience in real healthcare settings. Throughout the curriculum, students develop skills in critical thinking, communication, ethical decision-making, and patient advocacy. With a total of 64 nursing credits embedded within a liberal arts framework, the program prepares graduates to meet the demands of modern healthcare, respond to diverse patient needs, and pursue licensure as registered nurses.
