COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Brooklyn provides students with a rigorous and comprehensive understanding of economic theory, quantitative analysis, and applied problem-solving, preparing graduates for careers in business, government, finance, and policy, as well as for graduate studies. The program requires 18 credits of core economics courses, beginning with ECO 120, Macroeconomics, which introduces students to national and global economic systems, fiscal and monetary policy, and the forces that drive economic growth and stability. ECO 226, Microeconomics, examines individual, firm, and market behavior, exploring supply and demand, market structures, pricing, and consumer decision-making. ECO 222, Statistics, equips students with essential analytical and data-driven skills necessary for economic research and forecasting, while ECO 223, Money and Banking, provides an understanding of financial institutions, monetary systems, and the role of central banks in economic management. ECO 328, History of Economic Thought, explores the evolution of economic ideas and theories, tracing how economists from Adam Smith to modern scholars have influenced policy and practice. The program culminates with ECO 400, Seminar in Economics, a capstone course that emphasizes critical thinking, applied research, and the communication of economic analysis in practical and policy contexts.
