COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Chemistry Adolescence Education at St. Joseph's University, New York includes additional requirements for students preparing to become secondary school teachers. Beyond completing the standard chemistry major coursework, students must also take selected biology and advanced chemistry courses to ensure a well-rounded scientific background suitable for teaching.Specifically, students are required to complete General Biology I and General Biology II, which provide foundational knowledge in biological sciences and broaden their understanding beyond chemistry. In addition, they must take Quantum Mechanics and Structure, a key advanced chemistry course that deepens their understanding of atomic and molecular behavior.Students are also required to choose one advanced elective from a range of specialized chemistry courses, including Medicinal Chemistry, Biochemistry I, Biochemistry II, Environmental Chemistry, or Inorganic Chemistry. This elective allows students to explore a particular area of interest while enhancing their subject expertise.These additional requirements ensure that future educators are equipped with both depth and breadth in the sciences, enabling them to effectively teach chemistry at the adolescence level while also integrating related scientific concepts into their instruction.
