COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biology Adolescence Education B.A./B.S. program at St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn campus) requires students to complete a focused set of major requirements in biology alongside their education coursework. Students in this program must complete a total of 32 credits in Biology, ensuring they develop a solid foundation in key biological concepts and scientific principles necessary for teaching at the secondary school level.In addition to the credit requirement, students must also complete advanced-level coursework to strengthen their subject expertise. All students are required to take BIO 480 (Research), which provides experience in scientific investigation and analysis. Beyond this, students must complete at least one 400-level Biology course as part of the major. For those pursuing the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree, the requirement is more rigorous, as they must complete two 400-level Biology courses in addition to BIO 480.These requirements are designed to ensure that future educators not only understand fundamental biology but also gain exposure to advanced topics and research-based learning. Overall, the program prepares students with both the scientific knowledge and academic depth needed to effectively teach biology at the adolescence education level.
