COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in English Adolescence Education at St. Joseph's University, New York (Brooklyn campus) requires students to complete 39 credits in addition to the 3-credit course Writing for Effective Communication. The academic requirements for this program closely follow those of the standard English major, ensuring that students gain a strong foundation in literature, writing, and critical analysis. However, students in the adolescence education track are specifically encouraged to include Literature and the Writing Process as one of their electives to strengthen their teaching and writing skills.In addition to English coursework, students must also fulfill requirements set by the Education Department, which focus on teaching methods, classroom management, and educational theory necessary for becoming effective secondary school educators. A key component of the program is the emphasis on communication skills, demonstrated through the requirement of three speech-related courses.
