COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Southeast Missouri State University is designed as a flexible, broad-based graduate business degree that prepares students for leadership roles across a wide range of industries. The program begins with a set of core courses that build a strong foundation in key areas of modern business management. These include Organizational Behavior in Practice, which focuses on understanding workplace dynamics and leadership; Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods, which develops analytical and decision-making skills using data; Integrated Decision Information Systems, which explores how technology supports business decisions; Strategic Decision Making and Strategic Marketing, which emphasize long-term planning and market strategy; Strategic Cost Analysis and Financial Applications, which builds financial interpretation and cost-control skills; and The Financial Environment, which provides insight into financial systems, markets, and economic influences on organizations. Together, these core courses ensure that students develop a well-rounded understanding of business operations, leadership, and analytical thinking.In addition to the core curriculum, students complete 12 hours of electives chosen from a wide range of graduate-level courses in areas such as accounting, business administration, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, healthcare administration, industrial management, management, marketing, and related fields. This flexibility allows students to tailor the MBA to their individual career goals, whether they are interested in corporate leadership, finance, marketing, operations, or entrepreneurship. A minimum number of courses must be taken at the advanced (600) level to ensure academic rigor and depth of study. Students may also include select business essentials courses as part of their elective requirements if needed.To complete the degree, students must pass either a comprehensive examination or an oral examination as determined by the program. Overall, the MBA program emphasizes strategic thinking, data-driven decision-making, and leadership development, preparing graduates for advanced managerial roles and long-term career growth in a competitive global business environment.
