COURSE CURRICULUM

The Business Management program at SEMO is a structured 30-hour major designed to prepare students for leadership roles in a wide range of industries, including business, government, education, and nonprofit organizations. The Business Administration Core provides a strong foundation in essential business areas such as accounting, finance, management, marketing, business law, and information systems, along with strategic business policy. Students also select an international-focused course that broadens their understanding of global business environments, including options like international economics, international finance, global logistics, or international marketing.Supporting the core are 27 hours of support courses that develop key communication, analytical, and quantitative skills. These include business communication, professionalism, microeconomics, macroeconomics, rhetoric and critical thinking, mathematics or quantitative reasoning, computer applications, and oral communication. These courses ensure students are well-prepared for advanced business coursework and professional environments.The Management major itself emphasizes leadership development and practical experience. Students complete required courses in human resource management, management skills, and leadership in management, along with Microsoft Excel certification. A major strength of the program is the “real-world experience” requirement, which can be fulfilled through an international academic program, an internship, or approved professional experience, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in practical settings.Students further customize their education through analytics-focused coursework and a chosen management track. The Professional Track emphasizes negotiation, teamwork, leadership, organizational behavior, talent development, and internships, while the Studies Track offers broader flexibility with electives in entrepreneurship, project management, supply chain management, marketing, economics, and organizational theory.Overall, the program blends business fundamentals, leadership training, analytical skills, and experiential learning. Graduates are prepared for careers in management, human resources, operations, consulting, entrepreneurship, and organizational leadership across a wide variety of industries.
