COURSE CURRICULUM

The accounting program is structured to provide a comprehensive foundation in business knowledge, technical accounting expertise, and professional skills, requiring a total of 90 credit hours across core, support, and major-specific courses. The Business Administration Core consists of 30 credit hours and introduces students to essential areas such as accounting, management, marketing, finance, business law, and information systems. Courses like Principles of Accounting I and II, Financial Management, and Business Policy and Strategy help students understand how organizations operate and make strategic decisions. Students also complete an international-focused course to develop a global perspective on business practices.The Support Courses, totaling 27 credit hours, are designed to strengthen communication, analytical, and quantitative skills. These include Business Communication, Professionalism, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Rhetoric and Critical Thinking, along with mathematics and computer applications. Oral communication and introductory technology courses further ensure that students are well-prepared to function effectively in professional environments. A minimum grade of C is required in each of these courses, emphasizing academic competency.The Accounting major itself requires 33 credit hours and focuses on developing advanced knowledge in financial reporting, auditing, taxation, and accounting information systems. Core courses such as Financial Accounting and Reporting I, II, and III, Taxation of Individuals, and Auditing and Assurance Services provide in-depth technical training. Students must also complete a Microsoft Excel certification, highlighting the importance of data and technology skills in modern accounting. Additionally, students choose from statistics courses to build analytical capabilities.Elective options allow students to tailor their learning based on career interests, with advanced topics including cost accounting, forensic accounting, government accounting, and internships. These choices provide flexibility and practical experience, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in accounting and related fields or for pursuing professional certifications like the CPA.
