The Microbiology, Cellular and Molecular Biology, and Biotechnology option at Southeast Missouri State University offers a rigorous, research-focused curriculum designed to prepare students for graduate school or careers in laboratory sciences and biotechnology industries. The program begins with core biology courses such as Evolution and Ecology, Cell and Organismal Biology, and Genetics, which establish a strong foundation in life sciences. Students also complete Career Development in Biology and an experiential learning requirement, allowing them to gain hands-on experience through research, internships, or field-based activities.The specialized component of this option focuses on laboratory and molecular sciences. Required courses such as General Microbiology and Laboratory Methods in Biotechnology train students in essential lab techniques, experimental design, and modern biotechnological methods. Students further deepen their expertise by selecting advanced courses like Medical Genetics, Cell Biology, Molecular Genetics, Immunology, Microbial Physiology, Investigative Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, or Pathogenic Microbiology.
