COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agribusiness: Animal Science program at Southeast Missouri State University combines core agribusiness training with specialized knowledge in animal science to prepare students for careers in livestock production, agribusiness management, and related fields. The curriculum begins with a strong foundation in agribusiness through courses such as Agribusiness Orientation, Communicating in Agriculture, Agriculture Business Data Analysis, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, and Agribusiness Finance. These courses help students understand the economic, financial, and managerial aspects of the agriculture industry. Additional subjects like Agriculture Safety and Agriculture Seminar focus on professional development, while Marketing of Agricultural Products and Agribusiness Sales prepare students for roles in sales and market-oriented positions.Students also complete foundational agricultural science courses, including Plant Science with lab, Animal Science, and Introduction to Horticulture, ensuring a broad understanding of agricultural systems. They can further strengthen their business knowledge by choosing between Agribusiness Management II or Principles of Accounting I. Experiential learning is emphasized through options such as an agriculture internship or undergraduate research, allowing students to gain practical, hands-on experience.The Animal Science component provides in-depth training in livestock biology, health, and production. Students study topics such as animal immunology, nutrition, reproduction, and breed improvement, which are essential for managing healthy and productive animals. They also choose between courses in companion animal diseases or livestock diseases to develop expertise in animal health. A wide range of elective courses allows students to specialize further in areas such as horse science, beef production, animal welfare, meat science, feeding practices, and livestock behavior and management.Additional coursework in chemistry and mathematics strengthens scientific understanding and analytical skills. Overall, this program equips students with a balanced combination of business acumen and animal science expertise, preparing them for diverse careers in agribusiness, livestock production, animal health industries, or advanced studies in agriculture and related fields.
