The Agriculture Systems Management program at Southeast Missouri State University offers a comprehensive curriculum that blends agribusiness knowledge, agricultural science, and technical systems management. The program begins with a strong foundation in core agribusiness courses such as Agribusiness Orientation, Communicating in Agriculture, Agriculture Business Data Analysis, Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, and Agribusiness Finance. These courses help students understand the business and economic side of agriculture, while classes like Agriculture Safety and Agriculture Seminar focus on professional development and safe industry practices. Marketing of Agricultural Products and Agribusiness Sales further prepare students for roles in promoting and managing agricultural enterprises.Students also gain essential scientific knowledge through courses such as Plant Science with lab, Animal Science, and Introduction to Horticulture. They can choose to strengthen their business background with either Principles of Accounting I or Agribusiness Management II. Practical experience is emphasized through options like an agriculture internship or undergraduate research, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge in real-world settings.The specialized Agriculture Systems Management component focuses on technical and operational aspects of modern agriculture. Courses like Agriculture Mechanization, Soils, Probability and Statistics, and Introductory Physics build a strong base in machinery, data analysis, and physical systems. Students also explore legal and policy aspects through Agriculture Law or Agricultural and Food Policy. Advanced course options allow students to focus on areas such as precision agriculture, GIS and spatial analysis, water management, sustainability, or specialized topics like hydroponics and meat science.A unique feature of the program is the choice of a 9-hour technical sequence, where students can specialize in areas such as electrical and programmable systems, construction management, or architectural drafting and design. This flexibility allows students to tailor their education toward careers in farm systems management, infrastructure planning, or agricultural technology. Additional coursework in chemistry and mathematics strengthens analytical and scientific skills.
