COURSE CURRICULUM

The Agriculture Industry program at Southeast Missouri State University is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in agribusiness, agricultural science, and practical industry skills while allowing flexibility based on individual career goals. The required core courses introduce students to key areas of agriculture and business, including Agribusiness Orientation, Communicating in Agriculture, and Agriculture Business Data Analysis, which build essential communication and analytical abilities. Courses such as Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, and Agribusiness Finance develop a solid understanding of how agricultural markets operate and how financial decisions are made within the industry. Additional subjects like Agriculture Safety and Agriculture Seminar focus on professional development and safe industry practices, while Marketing of Agricultural Products and Agribusiness Sales prepare students for roles in promoting and selling agricultural goods.To ensure a well-rounded agricultural background, students complete foundational science courses including Plant Science with lab, Animal Science, and Introduction to Horticulture. These courses provide essential knowledge about crop production, livestock, and plant systems. Students also have the option to choose between Agribusiness Management II or Principles of Accounting I, allowing them to further strengthen their business expertise. Experiential learning is an important component of the program, with students selecting either an agriculture internship or undergraduate research to gain hands-on experience and practical exposure to the field.A unique feature of the Agriculture Industry program is its flexibility, as students complete 30 additional credit hours of agriculture-related courses based on their interests and prior academic background. These courses, selected in consultation with an advisor, may include agriculture, agronomy, animal science, or horticulture subjects, and can also incorporate credits transferred from an associate degree program. Supporting requirements in chemistry and mathematics further enhance students’ scientific and analytical skills. Overall, the program prepares graduates for diverse careers in agriculture by combining technical knowledge, business skills, and real-world experience.
